If so, you won’t want to miss this practical how-to session on awarding badges in Canvas. During this session, you’ll have an opportunity to create a badging account and a personal issuer that you can use to award badges to learners. You’ll also learn how to build a basic badge and how to trigger badge awards through module completion in your Canvas classroom

As our academic institutions navigate the ever-evolving landscape of higher education, OLC Innovate 2024 stands as a beacon for individuals of all backgrounds and experience levels to come together. We invite you to partake in a dynamic exchange of best practices, the exploration of new ideas, and collaborative efforts aimed at supporting, enhancing, and revolutionizing online, blended, and digital education.


Open Enrollment - no fixed dates
SBCTC offers a variety of accessibility-related microcourses. Each course is approximately 3 hours in length and focuses on particular skills and/or content creation programs. Current micro-courses include: Understanding Accessibility, Accessible Design Concepts,
Universal Design, Accessible Word Documents, Accessible PPT, Email Accessibility, Accessible PDFs, Canvas Accessibility.


Participants are awarded with digital badges upon completion of each micro-course. Participants who complete five micro-courses (15 hours) will also receive a certificate from SBCTC.


Registering in the accessibility micro-courses will give participants ongoing access to the courses. There are no course start/stop dates. Users can remove themselves from the Canvas course at any point.

This is a free, self-paced online course that covers:

  • Introduction to AI
  • Getting Started with ChatGPT
  • Introduction to Prompt Engineering
  • Strategies for Using ChatGPT in Your Practice
  • The Ethical Implications of AI in Your Classroom
  • Introducing Students to AI and ChatGPT

This course is taught by Amanda Bickerstaff, the CoFounder and CEO of AI for Education. This course teaches everything an instructor would need to know to get started using AI in the classroom. The course also provides a free certificate


Teach Access Accessibility Courses

Open Enrollment
Teach Access’ mission is to bring together industry, education, and disability advocacy organizations and address the digital accessibility skills gap by equipping learners to build toward an inclusive world. These free, self-paced courses for educators provide an introduction to disability and the principles of accessible design across various disciplines. In addition, they provide guidance to educators on how to start teaching accessibility in their courses.


Writing in the Disciplines Professional Development Course

This self-paced course can be taken at any time and is intended for instructional faculty from any discipline seeking to improve the use of writing assignments to foster learning. Through a series of modules and assessments, participants will (a) learn to define and differentiate between Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC), Writing to Learn (WTL), and Writing in the Disciplines (WID); (b) identify key genres in their discipline (c) identify key elements of these genres; (d) develop methods for teaching how to read and write these genres; (e) learn to incorporate WAC best practices, such as scaffolding, informal writing, peer review, reflection, and revision; (f) and improve grading with tips.


An Essential Guide to AI for Educators

  • Familiarize yourself with AI and get started using ChatGPT
  • Learn how to save time on lesson planning and administrative tasks
  • Be able to immediately create engaging, personalized learning experiences for your students
  • Develop strategies and activities for introducing AI to your students
  • Gain access to our Prompt Library, a curated resource developed specifically for educators

This year’s Assessment, Teaching, and Learning conference will serve as an opportunity to build upon the practices you already use or for you to find new best practices to implement. You'll leave the conference energized with innovative strategies to create the best possible learning experience for your students. This two-day event will be aligned with guided pathways teaching and learning pillars, centering student engagement, equity, and effectiveness, but we will also lean into our theme: Connect and Build.
