REFERENCE LIST | FORMAT

In APA Style, the Reference List section begins after the text or main body of the paper and before any figures, tables or appendices.

Order of Pages

References are covered in Chapters 9 and 10 of the APA Publication Manual, 7th Edition

Some basic Reference List formatting:

  • The Reference List section should begin on a new page.
  • Title this section “References” – centered, capitalized and bolded.
  • Use the hanging indent format (i.e., the first line of each reference is set flush left with subsequent lines indented 0.5 in.)
  • Double-space all reference entries.
  • If there is no date provided, use “n.d.” (n.d. = no date).
  • Missing Reference Information
