Assignment

For this assignment, you'll be writing a 1,500 - 2,000 word research paper on how climate change will effect the business and industry practices of your chosen field.

Follow the outline below to organize your paper and use three scholarly/peer-reviewed articles or articles from trade journals to support your argument.

If you'd like further assistance with any part of this assignment, please reach out to your CPTC Librarian, Pearl DeSure (pearl.desure@cptc.edu).

Organization, Content, and Word Count Expectations

Your paper should be organized into the following sections:

  • Climate Change and (Your Field): Discuss climate change projections that, in your view, are most relevant to your field. (300-500 words)
  • An Assessment of Current Sustainability Efforts in (Your Field): This section should be an objective, unbiased summary/("Writing to Inform") of what the company's competitors are doing to adapt to climate change. This is basically a literature review, but it will be highly condensed to fit into the space of 300-500 words. Dr. Amina Yonis explains how to quickly and efficiently write a literature review in this video. (300-500 words)
  • Analysis: Here, you should analyze what you have reported on in the previous section. Analyze what other companies are doing. What's working? What's not working? Why? How? Be as specific as possible. If you are unable to find good case studies, please think critically and explain, in your view, the pros and cons of these various approaches. Use these "key characteristics" to help guide your writing in the analysis section of your paper. (300-500 words)
  • Recommendations: Based on your research and analysis, what should the company do? Should the company adopt any similar programs as others have? If so, what kind of modifications are needed to tailor it for our company? Is this recommendation feasible? Will it be more expensive? Will it require extra training? What are the pros and cons of this recommendation? (300-500 words)
  • Works Cited: Here, we're looking for at least three to five scholarly, peer-reviewed sources. You will likely need to use other substantive sources, as well, like statistics from reliable sources (e.g., Government Data, Statista, Pew Research Center) and reliable, unbiased news sources. This graph can help you to understand how various news sources are perceived.
