FactCheck.org is a nonpartisan, nonprofit project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.

PolitiFact is a fact-checking website that rates the accuracy of claims by elected officials and others on its Truth-O-Meter. Started in 2007 as a project of the Tampa Bay-Times, PolitiFact is now owned by the Poynter Institute.

One of the oldest and most well-known fact-checking sites, Snopes was established in 1994 and remains independently owned.

With help from questions submitted by the audience, Verify tracks the spread of stories or claims that need clarification or correction. Owned by Tegna, one of the country's largest owners of local television stations.
